 2018 Preview

Springville finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Springville finished sixth in Class 5A region six with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2009 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 2005 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Springville averaged scoring just 11.7 points a game.

The Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, the Springville football program has struggled with a record of 21-59.

Over the past 25 seasons, Springville has managed to compile a record of 153-115. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 5A and 115th in the AHSAA.

The Tigers will be under the direction of new head football coach Michael Graben as they enter the 2018 season.

The Springville Tigers will play in Class 5A region five during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 5A but move from region six over to region five.

It will be an uphill battle for the Tigers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region five this season. After just 2 wins last year, Springville will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

The Tigers open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Hayden on Thursday, August 23 at Robert W. Reid Stadium. Last year the Hayden Wildcats finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in second place in Class 5A region six. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Lee Huntsville by a score of 31-21.

Springville and Hayden have met a total of 29 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 20-9-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2017 with Springville winning by a score of 21-20.
