 2018 Preview 


       Sumiton Christian completed the 2017 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Sumiton Christian just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region seven with a 2-4 region record.

       The Eagles hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just four games which followed a 9-3 record in 2016.

       Sumiton Christian struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 35.1 points a game.

       Since 2010, Sumiton Christian has gone a combined 36-45. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Sumiton Christian has managed to compile a record of 117-135. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 2A and 229th in the AHSAA.




       The Eagles will be under the direction of new head football coach Bart Black as they enter the 2018 season.

       The Sumiton Christian Eagles will play in Class 2A region five during the 2018 season. The Eagles move up in classification to Class 2A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

       With a little luck and some improvement, the Eagles could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region five this season. Sumiton Christian came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

       The Eagles open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Hanceville on Friday, August 24 at Ray Talley Stadium. Last year the Hanceville Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 3A region six. The Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a loss to Good Hope by a score of 29-0.

       Sumiton Christian and Hanceville have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 2-2-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2007 with Sumiton Christian winning by a score of 41-6.
