2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Beulah finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Beulah finished sixth in Class 3A region four with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Bobcats last playoff victory came during the 1994 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Beulah averaged scoring just 12.5 points a game. The Bobcats also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 37.2 points a game. The Bobcats would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, Beulah has gone a combined 36-85. Their 29.8% winning percentage ranks 53rd in Class 3A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Beulah has not won much with a record of 66-186. Their 26.0% winning percentage ranks 56th in Class 3A and 364th in the AHSAA. The Bobcats have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time. The Bobcats are led by head coach Matthew Johnson who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 7-23 over the past three seasons at Beulah. The Bobcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Johnson. Coach Johnson's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 7-23 (23.3%). The Beulah Bobcats will play in Class 3A region four during the 2022 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Bobcats could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region four this season. Beulah has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2018 but hope to return to the post season this year. The Bobcats open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Abbeville on Friday, August 19 at Bobcat Stadium. Last year the Abbeville Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 2-7 and in seventh place in Class 2A region two. The Yellow Jackets ended last season on a positive note with a win over Pike County by a score of 37-21 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Beulah and Abbeville have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Bobcats have a 2-1-0 record against the Yellow Jackets.
