 2022 Preview 


       Colbert Heights completed the 2021 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region eight, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Colbert Heights's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Oakman by a score of 36-7.

       Colbert Heights was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Wildcats want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.4 points a game.

       Since 2010, Colbert Heights has gone a combined 67-62. Their 51.9% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 3A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Colbert Heights has managed to compile a record of 134-134. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 3A and 185th in the AHSAA.




       The Wildcats are led by head coach Taylor Leathers who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 37-30 over the past six seasons at Colbert Heights. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Leathers.

       Coach Leathers' overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 37-30 (55.2%).

       The Colbert Heights Wildcats will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2022 season. Colbert Heights will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

       With a little luck and some improvement, the Wildcats could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region eight this season.

       The Wildcats open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Lexington on Friday, August 19 at Amos Mitchell Stadium. Last year the Lexington Golden Bears finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in second place in Class 2A region eight. The Golden Bears lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Southeastern by a score of 48-28.

       Colbert Heights and Lexington have met a total of 31 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 12-19-0 record against the Golden Bears. They last met in 2019 with Colbert Heights winning by a score of 21-20.
