2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
D.A.R. finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year D.A.R. finished sixth in Class 4A region seven with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. D.A.R. was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Patriots want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.9 points a game. D.A.R. struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 37.7 points a game. Since 2010, D.A.R. has gone a combined 50-75. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 4A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 16 seasons, D.A.R. has managed to compile a record of 68-97. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 4A and 282nd in the AHSAA. The Patriots will be under the direction of new head football coach Brian Largen as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Largen served as an assistant coach on the staff at D.A.R. last season. The D.A.R. Patriots will play in Class 4A region eight during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Patriots remain in 4A but move from region seven over to region eight. It will be an uphill battle for the Patriots if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region eight this season. The Patriots open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Sardis on Friday, August 19 at Lions Stadium. Last year the Sardis Lions finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 5A region seven. The Lions closed out the regular season with a loss to Hokes Bluff by a score of 42-12. D.A.R. and Sardis have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Patriots have a 1-3-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2017 with D.A.R. winning by a score of 31-21. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
