 2022 Preview 


       Houston County completed the 2021 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Houston County finished sixth in Class 2A region two with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Lions improved in 2021 with their first winning season since 2017. The Lions last playoff victory came during the 2004 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Since 2010, the Houston County football program has struggled with a record of 29-93.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Houston County has managed to compile a record of 111-154. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 1A and 268th in the AHSAA.




       The Lions will be under the direction of new head football coach Jake Allen as they enter the 2022 season.  Coach Allen served as an assistant coach at Slocomb last season.

       The Houston County Lions will play in Class 1A region two during the 2022 season. The Lions may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 2A to 1A. They will compete in region two this year.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Lions if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season.

       The Lions open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Northside Methodist Academy on Thursday, August 18 at Northcutt Field. Last year the Northside Methodist Academy Knights finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in place in Class Ind region eleven. The Knights ended last season on a positive note with a win over Ashford by a score of 12-8 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Houston County and Northside Methodist Academy have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Lions have a 1-3-0 record against the Knights. They last met in 2021 with Houston County winning by a score of 19-13.
