2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Jemison finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Jemison finished seventh in Class 5A region three with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Panthers lost as many games as in any season since 1968. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Jemison averaged scoring just 11.4 points a game. The Panthers also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 38.9 points a game. The Panthers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Jemison has gone a combined 47-78. Their 37.6% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Jemison has managed to compile a record of 136-136. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 5A and 190th in the AHSAA. The Panthers are led by head coach John Therrell who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Jemison. The Panthers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Therrell. Coach Therrell's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 1-9 (10.0%). The Jemison Panthers will play in Class 5A region three during the 2022 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Panthers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. After just a single win last year, Jemison will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season. The Panthers open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Thorsby on Thursday, August 18 at Susan Bentley Field. Last year the Thorsby Rebels finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 2A region three. The Rebels lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Clarke County by a score of 47-8. Jemison and Thorsby have met a total of 21 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 17-4-0 record against the Rebels. They last met in 2021 with Thorsby winning by a score of 32-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
