 2022 Preview 


       Shoals Christian finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Shoals Christian finished seventh in Class 1A region eight with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Shoals Christian averaged scoring just 10.7 points a game. The Flame also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 36.4 points a game.

       Since 2010, Shoals Christian has gone a combined 43-84. Their 33.9% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 1A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 24 seasons, Shoals Christian has managed to compile a record of 96-141. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 1A and 284th in the AHSAA.




       The Flame are led by head coach Kelly Rushing who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 7-23 over the past three seasons at Shoals Christian. The Flame have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Rushing.

       Coach Rushing's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 9-41 (18.0%).

       The Shoals Christian Flame will play in Class 1A region eight during the 2022 season.

       Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier.

       The Flame enter the 2022 season in the middle of a 6 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. It will be an uphill battle for the Flame if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region eight this season.

       The Flame open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Tharptown on Friday, August 19 at Tharptown Stadium. Last year the Tharptown Wildcats finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in seventh place in Class 2A region eight. The Wildcats ended last season on a positive note with a win over Vina by a score of 28-0 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Shoals Christian and Tharptown have met a total of 15 times on the football field. The Flame have a 9-6-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2021 with Tharptown winning by a score of 22-6.
