Tharptown completed the 2021 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Tharptown finished seventh in Class 2A region eight with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Wildcats have never qualified for a playoff spot and would love to break that streak this season. The Wildcats have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2022. Tharptown was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Wildcats want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.9 points a game. Since 2010, the Tharptown football program has struggled with a record of 27-91. Over the past 16 seasons, Tharptown has not won much with a record of 38-116. Their 25.0% winning percentage ranks 57th in Class 2A and 369th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats have struggled on the football field with only two winning seasons during this time. The Wildcats will be under the direction of new head football coach Jacob Hamilton as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Hamilton served as an assistant coach at Carbon Hill last season. The Tharptown Wildcats will play in Class 2A region eight during the 2022 season. This season, the Wildcats will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight. The Wildcats open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Shoals Christian on Friday, August 19 at Tharptown Stadium. Last year the Shoals Christian Flame finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in seventh place in Class 1A region eight. Tharptown and Shoals Christian have met a total of 15 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 6-9-0 record against the Flame.
