Spanish Fort completed the 2021 season with a 10-2 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 6A region one, the Toros earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Spanish Fort reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Opelika by a score of 28-14. Over the past two seasons the Toros have gone 21-6 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Spanish Fort has gone a combined 140-27. Their 83.8% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 6A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 16 seasons, Spanish Fort has gone a combined 166-48. Their 78.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 6A and 9th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2007. The Toros will be under the direction of new head football coach Chase Smith as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Smith was the head football coach at Orange Beach in 2021. Coach Smith's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 14-16 (46.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Smith's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time . The Spanish Fort Toros will play in Class 6A region one during the 2022 season. Spanish Fort will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season. While most teams rebuild during the off season, Spanish Fort has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Toros should be in contention for a playoff spot in region one this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2007 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2022. The Toros open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Fairhope on Friday, August 19 at Fairhope Municipal Stadium. Last year the Fairhope Pirates finished with an overall record of 9-2 and in first place in Class 7A region one. The Pirates lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Enterprise by a score of 35-10. Spanish Fort and Fairhope have met a total of 9 times on the football field.
