2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Baker completed the 2021 season with a 7-4 record. With their 6-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 7A region one, the Hornets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Baker's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Auburn by a score of 39-3. The Hornets won as many games as in any season since 2014. The Hornets last playoff victory came during the 1984 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, Baker has gone a combined 65-59. Their 52.4% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 7A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Baker has not won much with a record of 80-174. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 7A and 336th in the AHSAA. The Hornets are led by head coach Steve Normand who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 17-14 over the past three seasons at Baker. Under his direction the Hornets have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Normand. Coach Normand's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 17-14 (54.8%). Many think this could be the year of the Hornet in the Mobile area. The most wins in any season was nine back in 2014. Look for Baker to threaten that mark in 2022 behind QB Josh Flowers. The Baker Hornets will play in Class 7A region one during the 2022 season. The Hornets should be considered one of the favorites for the region one championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Hornets open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Theodore on Friday, August 19 at C.A. Douglas Field. Last year the Theodore Bobcats finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in second place in Class 7A region one. The Bobcats lost in the second round of the Class 7A playoffs to Central Phenix City by a score of 77-41. Baker and Theodore have met a total of 59 times on the football field. The Hornets have a 10-48-1 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2021 with Theodore winning by a score of 36-31. Baker returns 7A All-State quarterback Josh Flowers. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
