 2022 Preview

Hoover completed the 2021 season with a 12-1 record. The Buccaneers cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Hoover captured the region three title and a number one seed in the Class 7A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. Hoover made a nice playoff run in 2021, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Thompson team by the score of 35-10.

Over the past two seasons the Buccaneers have gone 23-3 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Hoover has gone a combined 144-23. Their 86.2% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 7A over the past twelve seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Hoover has gone a combined 288-55. Their 84.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 7A and 3rd in the AHSAA. The Buccaneers have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 1998.

The Buccaneers will be under the direction of new head football coach Wade Waldrop as they enter the 2022 season.  Coach Waldrop was the head football coach at Florence last season.

Coach Waldrop's overall record as a head football coach in sixteen season stands at 100-75 (57.1%). His 100 wins rank 57th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Waldrop's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times and won three region championships.

There may be a different head coach but things will continue as usual for one of the premier programs in Alabama. A new coaching staff will work hard to keep the Bucs near the top of 7A.

The Hoover Buccaneers will play in Class 7A region three during the 2022 season.

The Buccaneers enter the 2022 season riding a 10 game regular season winning streak. Hoover has won 7 consecutive region games.

While most teams rebuild during the off season, Hoover has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Buccaneers enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region three and should be a team in the thick of the hunt to represent the North in the Class 7A title game. The Buccaneers have succeeded in reaching the playoffs every year since 1999 and this year should be no exception.

The Buccaneers open the 2022 season on a neutral field against non-region opponent Auburn on Friday, August 19 at . Last year the Auburn Tigers finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in second place in Class 7A region two. The Tigers lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 7A playoffs to Central Phenix City by a score of 28-17.

Hoover and Auburn have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Buccaneers have a 1-2-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2013 with Hoover winning by a score of 20-3.

Hoover returns 7A All-State  running back Ahamari Williams. He was named to the first team last season. The Buccaneers also return  defensive back Dale Miller. He was named to the second team. The Buccaneers also return  kicker Peyton Argent. He was named to the second team.
