 2022 Preview 


       Auburn completed the 2021 season with a 10-2 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 7A region two, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Auburn reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Central Phenix City by a score of 28-17.

       Over the past two seasons the Tigers have gone 22-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Auburn has gone a combined 110-36. Their 75.3% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 7A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Auburn has managed to compile a record of 196-99. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 7A and 61st in the AHSAA. The Tigers have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time.




       The Tigers are led by head coach Keith Etheredge who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 10-2 record in his first season at Auburn. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Etheredge. Coach Etheredge led Oxford to a state championship in 2021.

       Coach Etheredge's overall record as a head football coach in sixteen season stands at 160-54 (74.8%). His 160 wins rank 24th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Etheredge's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of sixteen times and won eight region championships. He has a 42-12 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches. Coach Etheredge won five state championships prior to arriving at Auburn, the last coming in 2019 at Oxford.

       The Auburn Tigers will play in Class 7A region two during the 2022 season. The Tigers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 73-42 last season. That ranks 5th in Class 7A and 9th in the AHSAA.

       The Tigers should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Tigers have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2000 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

       The Tigers open the 2022 season on a neutral field against non-region opponent Hoover on Friday, August 19 at Cramton Bowl. Last year the Hoover Buccaneers finished with an overall record of 12-1 and in first place in Class 7A region three. The Buccaneers lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 7A playoffs to Thompson by a score of 35-10.

       Auburn and Hoover have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 2-1-0 record against the Buccaneers. They last met in 2013 with Hoover winning by a score of 20-3.

       Auburn returns 7A All-State  defensive lineman Bradyn Joiner. He was named to the first team last season.
