Sand Rock completed the 2021 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region six, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Sand Rock's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Mars Hill by a score of 48-13. The Wildcats improved in 2021 with their first winning season since 2017. It marked the first time since the 2017 season that the Wildcats qualified for the playoffs. Since 2010, Sand Rock has gone a combined 70-58. Their 54.7% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Sand Rock has managed to compile a record of 162-113. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 2A and 99th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats are led by head coach Alan Heath who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 10-11 over the past two seasons at Sand Rock. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Heath. Coach Heath's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 10-11 (47.6%). The Sand Rock Wildcats will play in Class 2A region seven during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 2A but move from region six over to region seven. The Wildcats have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 62-47 last season. That ranks 3rd in Class 2A and 60th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region seven this season. The Wildcats open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Spring Garden on Thursday, August 18 at Panther Stadium. Last year the Spring Garden Panthers finished with an overall record of 12-1 and in first place in Class 2A region six. The Panthers lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 2A playoffs to Mars Hill by a score of 42-19. Sand Rock and Spring Garden have met a total of 36 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 24-12-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2021 with Spring Garden winning by a score of 29-28. Sand Rock returns 2A All-State Junior athlete Jacob Cornejo.
