2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Spain Park finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Spain Park finished seventh in Class 7A region three with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Spain Park was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Jaguars want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.1 points a game. Spain Park struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 36.0 points a game. Since 2010, Spain Park has gone a combined 75-58. Their 56.4% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 7A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 20 seasons, Spain Park has managed to compile a record of 132-93. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 7A and 98th in the AHSAA. The Jaguars will be under the direction of new head football coach Tim Vakakes as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Vakakes was the head football coach at Jackson-Olin in 2021. Coach Vakakes' overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 49-45 (52.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Vakakes' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times and won one region championship. The Spain Park Jaguars will play in Class 7A region three during the 2022 season. The Jaguars have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 74-42 last season. That ranks 4th in Class 7A and 14th in the AHSAA. It will be an uphill battle for the Jaguars if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. After just 2 wins last year, Spain Park will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Jaguars open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Calera on Friday, August 19 at Jaguar Stadium at Bob Finley Field. Last year the Calera Eagles finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in third place in Class 6A region three. The Eagles lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Spanish Fort by a score of 41-31. Spain Park and Calera have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 3-0-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
