 2022 Preview

Tarrant finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 0-8 record. Last year Tarrant finished eighth in Class 3A region six with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The defense allowed a team record 428 points last season.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Tarrant averaged scoring just 2.5 points a game. The Wildcats also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 53.5 points a game.

The Wildcats would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-16 record. Since 2010, Tarrant has gone a combined 38-78. Their 32.8% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 3A over the past twelve seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Tarrant has managed to compile a record of 133-135. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 3A and 195th in the AHSAA.

The Wildcats will be under the direction of new head football coach Rico Jackson as they enter the 2022 season.  Coach Jackson was the head football coach at Murphy in 2021.

Coach Jackson's overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 56-51 (52.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Jackson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times and won one region championship.

The Tarrant Wildcats will play in Class 3A region five during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 3A but move from region six over to region five. The Wildcats have one of the toughest schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 66-45 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 3A and 35th in the AHSAA.

Region five will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season.

The Wildcats enter the 2022 season in the middle of a 13 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Wildcats will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Tarrant will be to simply win some games.

The Wildcats open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Talladega County Central on Friday, August 19 at Tarrant Stadium. Last year the Talladega County Central Fighting Tigers finished with an overall record of 0-9 and in seventh place in Class 1A region five. The Fighting Tigers closed out the regular season with a loss to Central Coosa by a score of 60-20.

Tarrant and Talladega County Central have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 4-0-0 record against the Fighting Tigers. They last met in 2017 with Tarrant winning by a score of 27-0.
