2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Vestavia Hills completed the 2021 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Vestavia Hills just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 7A region three with a 3-4 region record. Vestavia Hills was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Rebels want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.7 points a game. Since 2010, Vestavia Hills has gone a combined 79-55. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 7A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Vestavia Hills has gone a combined 201-93. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 7A and 43rd in the AHSAA. The Rebels have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time. The Rebels will be under the direction of new head football coach Robert Evans as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Evans was the defensive coordinator at Mountain Brook last season. Coach Evans will bring a wide open offense and a fast paced game to Vestavia Hills in 2022. It will be a different look for the Rebels. The Vestavia Hills Rebels will play in Class 7A region three during the 2022 season. The Rebels have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 75-44 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 7A and 15th in the AHSAA. With a little luck and some improvement, the Rebels could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season. Vestavia Hills missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2022. The Rebels open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Mountain Brook on Thursday, August 18 at Thompson Reynolds Stadium, Buddy Anderson Field. Last year the Mountain Brook Spartans finished with an overall record of 12-2 and in first place in Class 6A region five. The Spartans lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 6A playoffs to Clay-Chalkville by a score of 24-18. Vestavia Hills and Mountain Brook have met a total of 58 times on the football field. The Rebels have a 30-28-0 record against the Spartans. They last met in 2021 with Mountain Brook winning by a score of 33-3. Vestavia Hills returns 7A All-State linebacker Houston Owen. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
