2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Barbour County finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Barbour County finished eighth in Class 2A region three with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Barbour County averaged scoring just 5.5 points a game. The Jaguars also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 56.3 points a game. The Jaguars would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Barbour County football program has struggled with a record of 24-102. Over the past 23 seasons, Barbour County has not won much with a record of 50-177. Their 22.0% winning percentage ranks 59th in Class 2A and 382nd in the AHSAA. The Jaguars have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. The Jaguars will be under the direction of new head football coach Derrick Levett as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Levett comes from Bullock County after two years with that program. The Jaguars enter the 2023 season in the middle of a 19 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Jaguars will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region three. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Barbour County will be to simply win some games. The Jaguars open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Calhoun on Friday, September 1 at Samuel Bruce Stadium. Last year the Calhoun Tigers finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 1A region four. The Tigers closed out the regular season with a loss to Pike Liberal Arts by a score of 50-6. Barbour County and Calhoun have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 3-2-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2022 with Calhoun winning by a score of 26-8. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
