2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lawrence County finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Lawrence County finished seventh in Class 5A region eight with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Red Devils last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Lawrence County averaged scoring just 13.4 points a game. The Red Devils would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, Lawrence County has gone a combined 45-89. Their 33.6% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Lawrence County has managed to compile a record of 105-157. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 5A and 292nd in the AHSAA. The Red Devils are led by head coach Trent Walker who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 3-17 over the past two seasons at Lawrence County. The Red Devils have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Walker. The Red Devils will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region eight this season. The Red Devils open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Danville on Friday, August 25 at Smith-Owens Stadium. Last year the Danville Hawks finished with an overall record of 3-8 and in fourth place in Class 3A region seven. The Hawks lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Mars Hill by a score of 62-7. Lawrence County and Danville have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Red Devils have a 8-4-0 record against the Hawks. They last met in 2022 with Lawrence County winning by a score of 24-6. Lawrence County lost 5A All-State linebacker Wyatt Dutton to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
