2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mae Jemison finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Mae Jemison finished sixth in Class 6A region eight with a 0-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The defense allowed a team record 528 points last season. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Mae Jemison averaged scoring just 10.4 points a game. The Jaguars also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 52.8 points a game. The Jaguars would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Mae Jemison is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only seven seasons. They have managed a record of 31-45 over the past seven years. The Jaguars will be under the direction of new head football coach Rico White as they enter the 2023 season. Coach White arrives after five seasons in Anniston. His team last year finished with an 11-1 record. Over the course of his career, Coach White's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won one region championship. The Jaguars enter the 2023 season in the middle of a 12 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Jaguars will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Mae Jemison will be to simply win some games. The Jaguars open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Decatur on Friday, August 25 at Shorty Ogle Stadium. Last year the Decatur Red Raiders finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in third place in Class 6A region seven. The Red Raiders lost in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs to Gardendale by a score of 31-7. Mae Jemison and Decatur have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 1-2-0 record against the Red Raiders. They last met in 2022 with Decatur winning by a score of 65-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
