2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Horseshoe Bend completed the 2023 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Horseshoe Bend finished sixth in Class 2A region three with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Generals last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, Horseshoe Bend has gone a combined 45-98. Their 31.5% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Horseshoe Bend has not won much with a record of 78-179. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 2A and 354th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Generals are led by head coach Jeremy Phillips who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 14-36 over the past five seasons at Horseshoe Bend. The Generals have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Phillips. Season Outlook: The Horseshoe Bend Generals will play in Class 2A region four during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Generals remain in 2A but move from region three over to region four. The Generals have not reached the playoffs since 2016 but have a better shot this season with the realignment of region 4. Only two teams currently in the region qualified for the playoffs in 2023. That alone will give them a better chance. The Generals have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region four this season. Horseshoe Bend has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2016 but hope to return to the post season this year. Returning Starters: WR/DB Carson Lucas, WR/DB Kori Woods, RB/DB Braxton Wilson Season Opener: The Generals open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Saks on Friday, August 23 at Battle Stadium. Last year the Saks Wildcats finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 3A region four. The Wildcats ended last season on a positive note with a win over Talladega by a score of 29-27 after failing to gain a playoff spot. This will be the second meeting between Horseshoe Bend and Saks on the football field. The Generals have a 1-0-0 record against the Wildcats.
