2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Barbour County finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Barbour County finished eighth in Class 2A region three with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Barbour County averaged scoring just 6.4 points a game. The Jaguars also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 40.3 points a game. The Jaguars would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Barbour County football program has struggled with a record of 25-111. Over the past 24 seasons, Barbour County has not won much with a record of 51-186. Their 22.0% winning percentage ranks 54th in Class 2A and 378th in the AHSAA. The Jaguars have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Head Coach: The Jaguars are led by head coach Derrick Levett who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Barbour County. The Jaguars saw improvement from a 0-10 record the season before coach Levett arrived. The Jaguars have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Levett. Season Outlook: The Barbour County Jaguars will play in Class 2A region three during the 2024 season. The Jaguars enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. The Jaguars would just like to win a few games and be competitive in Region 3. The Jaguars will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. After just a single win last year, Barbour County will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season. Season Opener: The Jaguars open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Notasulga on Friday, August 30 at Blue Devils Stadium. Last year the Notasulga Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in third place in Class 1A region four. The Blue Devils lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Millry by a score of 55-0. Barbour County and Notasulga have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 0-4-0 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 2021 with Notasulga winning by a score of 73-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
