2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cedar Bluff completed the 2023 season with a 5-6 record. With their 2-4 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 1A region seven, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Cedar Bluff's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Wadley by a score of 62-10. Since 2010, Cedar Bluff has gone a combined 99-62. Their 61.5% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Cedar Bluff has managed to compile a record of 196-101. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 2A and 67th in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Cedar Bluff lost 1A All-State kicker Carter Dillingham to graduation. He was named to the second team last season. Also graduating was teammate defensive lineman Carson Webb. Head Coach: The Tigers are led by head coach Garrett Crane who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 5-6 record in his first season at Cedar Bluff. The Tigers saw improvement from a 4-7 record the season before coach Crane arrived. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Crane. Season Outlook: The Cedar Bluff Tigers will play in Class 2A region seven during the 2024 season. The Tigers move up in classification to Class 2A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. The Tigers have made a playoff appearance in each of the past ten seasons and 27 of the last 28 seasons. But they have not won a playoff game since the 2017 football season something they will be trying to remedy in 2024. Only one team from region 7 finished last year with a winning record and that was Pisgah (12-2) so the Tigers will have an excellent shot at one of the four playoffs games in 2024. The Tigers will be more experienced this fall with most of the starters back from last year's team. Head Coach Garrett Crane said about this year's team, ''We are excited for the challenge of 2A.'' The Tigers have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region seven this season. They have qualified for the playoffs every year since 2013 and are hopeful to continue that streak in 2024. Returning Starters: OFFENSE: Hunter Jenkins, Hunter Stallings, Caleb Edmondson, Jacob Chambers, Isaac Roberts, Hudson Smith DEFENSE: Kadin Fife, Kadien Tracy, Hayden Tucker, Logan Hampton, Byrann Kinsey Season Opener: The Tigers open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Valley Head on Friday, August 23 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Valley Head Tigers finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in second place in Class 1A region seven. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Hackleburg by a score of 33-18. Cedar Bluff and Valley Head have met a total of 59 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 40-19-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2023 with Valley Head winning by a score of 44-20. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
