2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Meek completed the 2023 season with a 6-5 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region eight, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Meek's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to South Lamar by a score of 32-14. The Tigers hope to get back closer to the 11-1 record in 2022. Since 2010, Meek has gone a combined 64-84. Their 43.2% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Meek has managed to compile a record of 108-155. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 1A and 285th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Tigers are led by head coach Daniel Evans who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 6-5 record in his first season at Meek. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Evans. Season Outlook: The Meek Tigers will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 1A but move from region eight over to region seven. The Meek Tigers dropped off a bit last year but hope 2024 will give them an opportunity to continue their three year run at the playoffs. Region 7 does offer opportunities for a playoff spot if the Tigers play well this year. The Tigers return seven starters to each side of the football this season. There will be some experienced players but they are still young and learning to play and win. Coach Evans thinks the front seven on defense will be a strength of the team this fall. He also believes they will be strong against the run on defense. Coach Evans had this to say about his Tigers in 2024. ''The team is young and excited to start the season. They are looking to get back to the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. '' The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region seven this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. Returning Starters: NEWCOMERS: Hunter Wyatt- Running back/Outside Linebacker; Cameron Grace- Defensive/Offensive Line Season Opener: The Tigers open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Lynn on Friday, August 23 at Posey Field. Last year the Lynn Bears finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class 1A region five. The Bears lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Coosa Christian by a score of 28-6. Meek and Lynn have met a total of 78 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 28-48-2 record against the Bears. They last met in 2021 with Meek winning by a score of 46-15. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
