2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Northside completed the 2023 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Northside just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 4A region five with a 3-4 region record. Northside took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2011. The Rams lost as many games as in any season since 2011. Since 2010, Northside has gone a combined 97-57. Their 63.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 5A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Northside has managed to compile a record of 118-146. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 5A and 245th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Rams are led by head coach Robbie Jones who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-9 over the past two seasons at Northside. Under his direction the Rams have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Jones. Season Outlook: The Northside Rams will play in Class 5A region three during the 2024 season. The Rams move up in classification to Class 5A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. The Rams missed the playoffs last year finishing fifth in 4A Region 5. It marked the first time they have not reached the post season since the 2016 football season. Their 4-6 record was also the first losing season at Northside since 2011. Coach Jones hopes to turn that trend around quickly starting with the 2024 season and get the Rams back to the playoffs. The Rams return seven players considered starters to the offense and eight on defense. The experience will certainly help the Rams get back into the playoffs this fall. Coach Jones spoke about his 2024 Rams. ''Coming off a 4-6 season only losing 7 seniors, 4 that were starters. Very young but experienced group that lost 3 games in last 3 minutes last season. Will be very athletic and looking for a run at the playoffs and with the right breaks a shot at region title. '' The Rams have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region three this season. Northside came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. Returning Starters: OFFENSE: Brody Honeycutt, Ryan Braughton, Parker Shirley, Brody Abernathy, Bennett Green, Evan Taylor, Jackson Rhodes DEFENSE: Tylan Nelson, Alex Snodgrass, Bennett Green, Brody Abernathy, Carson Smith, Parker Shirley, Evan Taylor, JJ Case NEWCOMERS: Austin Kightlinger-WR, Landon Kemp-RB, Miller Robinson-WR, Lee Goree-DL, Brantley Shirley-TE, Preston Riter-DB, Wyatt Frizzell-OL Season Opener: The Rams open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent West Blocton on Friday, August 23 at Northside Stadium. Last year the West Blocton Tigers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 4A region three. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Catholic Montgomery by a score of 48-7. Northside and West Blocton have met a total of 38 times on the football field. The Rams have a 14-23-1 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2019 with Northside winning by a score of 50-24. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
