2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Oakman completed the 2023 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region five, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Oakman's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Mars Hill by a score of 63-7. Since 2010, Oakman has gone a combined 102-60. Their 63.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Oakman has managed to compile a record of 151-125. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 3A and 146th in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Oakman lost 3A All-State offensive lineman Gage Blanton to graduation. He was named to the second team last season. Head Coach: The Wildcats are led by head coach Ryan Hall who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 32-24 over the past five seasons at Oakman. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hall. Season Outlook: The Oakman Wildcats will play in Class 3A region five during the 2024 season. The Oakman Wildcats are not thought of as being a powerhouse in 3A football but they have quietly reached the playoffs in each of the past thirteen seasons. They improved from a 3-8 record in 2022 to 7-4 last season. Can they parlay that success into another playoff spot in Region 5 in 2024? The Wildcats will have some experience returning as they will welcome back seven players on offense and eight on the defense. That experience should give them an upper hand on a playoff spot in 2024. Coach Ryan Hall had this to say about the 2024 football season at Oakman. ''Excited about this team - tremendous character and experience.'' The Wildcats should be in contention for a playoff spot in region five this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2010 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2024. Returning Starters: NEWCOMERS: CB- Kristopher Shepherd; DL- Gage Handley Season Opener: The Wildcats open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Cordova on Thursday, August 22 at Hosea Collins Field. Last year the Cordova Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class 4A region five. The Blue Devils closed out the regular season with a loss to Carver Birmingham by a score of 38-26. Oakman and Cordova have met a total of 67 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 21-44-2 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 2023 with Oakman winning by a score of 20-9. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
