2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Scottsboro completed the 2023 season with a 8-3 record. With their 4-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 5A region seven, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Scottsboro's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Moody by a score of 28-10. Since 2010, Scottsboro has gone a combined 71-80. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 5A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Scottsboro has managed to compile a record of 126-144. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 5A and 230th in the AHSAA. Coaching Change: Cris Bell resigned in early January after just three seasons at Scottsboro. His teams finished a combined 18-15 with two trips to the playoffs. His twelve seasons as a head coach with nine years at Oak Mountain have produced a 65-64 overall record. 2024 Head Coach: Tyler Vann moves to Scottsboro for the 2024 football season. Vann was an assistant coach at Scottsboro during the 2018 season and returns as the head coach this year. He is a 2013 graduate of North Sand Mountain High School. He was most recently the head football coach at Sylvania where he led his teams to a 28-10 record in just three seasons with the program. He was also the head coach at Woodville in 2020. Over the course of his career, Coach Vann's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times and won one region championship. Season Outlook: The Scottsboro Wildcats will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 5A but move from region seven over to region eight. The Wildcats have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 71-42 last season. That ranks 6th in Class 5A and 19th in the AHSAA. The Scottsboro offense rolled last year scoring 423 points and the Wildcats posted an 8-3 record with the only losses being to Guntersville, Mars Hill and Moody. Can Coach Tyler Vann come in and keep the winning going in 2024? We think it was a great hire and believe the fans will be excited about the product that is put on the field. The non-region schedule will not be easy with games against Fort Payne and North Jackson to open the season then Central Clay County and Mars Hill later in the year. Region 8 remains intact so look for Scottsboro to have another great shot at grabbing one of the four playoff spots when November rolls around. The Wildcats should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. Season Opener: The Wildcats open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Fort Payne on Friday, August 23 at Pat Trammell Stadium. Last year the Fort Payne Wildcats finished with an overall record of 7-5 and in second place in Class 6A region eight. The Wildcats lost in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs to Muscle Shoals by a score of 41-10. Scottsboro and Fort Payne have met a total of 89 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 33-53-3 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2023 with Scottsboro winning by a score of 56-51. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
