Sylvania completed the 2023 season with a 10-3 record. Last year Sylvania captured the region six title and a number one seed in the Class 3A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Rams since the 2016 season. Sylvania lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Madison Academy team by a score of 35-28. Since 2010, Sylvania has gone a combined 98-61. Their 61.6% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Sylvania has managed to compile a record of 161-115. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 3A and 109th in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Sylvania lost 3A All-State offensive lineman Ashdon Cooley to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Coaching Change: Tyler Vann leaves Sylvania where he led his teams to a 28-10 record in just three seasons with the program. Each of his teams reached the playoffs with the past two winning ten games during the season. It was only the second time in school history Sylvania accomplished that feat. 2024 Head Coach: Tanner Nelson has been named the Sylvania High football coach. He arrives after serving the past three seasons as the offensive coordinator of Collinsville. Season Outlook: The Sylvania Rams will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Rams remain in 3A but move from region six over to region eight. After back-to-back ten win seasons where do the Rams go from here? A new head coach and a cast of new players will be out to prove the Rams are here to stay and a force to be reckoned with in 3A once again in 2024. It's only the second time ever the Rams have won at least ten games in consecutive season. Region eight will be tough as always but a little more so with the arrival of Fyffe. Look for Sylvania to make a run for the region crown again. Coach Nelson tells AHSFHS.org ''We are returning 6 starters on offense and 3 starters on defense. We will play in a tough region. A tough non-region schedule playing North Jackson, Plainview, and Pisgah. We are excited to develop and continue to improve going into the season.'' The Rams are considered one of the favorites for the region eight championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Players to Watch in 2024: QB Griffin Turner will be returning for his senior season after completing 92-of-159 passes for 1,630 yards and 15 TDs last season. RB- Aiden Parham will be back for his senior season rushing for 2,532 yards and 14 touchdown in 2024. WR Roman McKeehan will also be back for his senior season after catching 35 passes for 521 yards and 1 touchdown. Returning Starters: OFFENSE: QB- Griffin Turner #3, RB- Aiden Parham #2, WR- Roman McKeehan #1, OL- Will Gant #50, OL- Colby Buttram #54, OL- Luke Tuttle #77 DEFENSE: DB- Landon Pritchett #0, DB- John Robert Dixon #12, LB- Travis Owens #15 NEWCOMERS: OL/DL- Tanner Haynes #58, OL/DL- Seth Cline #76, WR- Clayton Brown #5, TE/DE- Holden Henegar #4, LB/RB- Seth Ledford #6 Season Opener: The Rams open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent North Jackson on Friday, August 23 at Ram Stadium. Last year the North Jackson Chiefs finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in third place in Class 4A region eight. The Chiefs lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Haleyville by a score of 33-14. Sylvania and North Jackson have met a total of 3 times on the football field.
