 2024 Preview

Valley completed the 2023 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 5A region four, the Rams earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Valley's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to B.C. Rain by a score of 34-22.

The Rams improved in 2023 with their first winning season since 2019. It marked the first time since the 2019 season that the Rams qualified for the playoffs.

Since 2010, Valley has gone a combined 66-81. Their 44.9% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 5A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Valley has managed to compile a record of 136-132. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 5A and 199th in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
Valley lost 5A All-State  defensive back Cam Dooley to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating was teammate receiver Brandon Thomas.

Head Coach:
The Rams are led by head coach Adam Hunter who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 19-20 over the past four seasons at Valley. Under his direction the Rams have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hunter.

Season Outlook:

The Valley Rams will play in Class 5A region four during the 2024 season.

Valley will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

The Rams lost staring quarterback Cam'ron Dooley to graduation and the 1,584 yards and 23 touchdowns he threw for last season. With the AHSAA realignment region 4 has six teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. The odd thing is that not a single one of them won a playoff game.

The Rams did reach the playoffs last year after missing out on the post season the previous three seasons. Can they make it two in a row in 2024?

Valley will rely on Antwan Greenwood for leadership on defense and anchor the line of scrimmage. Galvin Goss and Zan Woody will be back in the secondary. Greenwood will have help along the defensive line from Jaylen Robertson and Antwan Hatchett. The trio have played together since they were freshmen at Valley.

The Rams have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region four this season.

Players to Watch in 2024:
RB Tilyn Carrell will be returning for his senior season after rushing for 1,081 yards and 6 TDs last season.

Also returning will be Noah Garcie who collected 78 tackles (38 solo) and 2 sacks as a junior.

Also coming back will be LB Carter Chambley who collected 65 tackles (42 solo) and 4 sacks as a sophomore in 2023.

Returning Starters:
QB/FS Galvin Goss, DE/NG Antwan Greenwood, LB/QB Mason Yabrough

Season Opener:
The Rams open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Glenwood School on Friday, August 23 at The Swamp. Last year the Glenwood School Gators finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class AAA region one. The Gators lost in the Class AAA State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Lee-Scott Academy. They final score was 24-14 in the Super Seven finals in Birmingham.

This will be the second meeting between Valley and Glenwood School on the football field. The Rams have a 0-1-0 record against the Gators. They last met in with
