2024 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Vina finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-8 record. Last year Vina finished seventh in Class 1A region eight with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Red Devils last playoff victory came during the 1987 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Vina averaged scoring just 9.6 points a game. The Red Devils also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 42.6 points a game. The Red Devils would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-17 record. Since 2010, the Vina football program has struggled with a record of 20-120. Over the past 25 seasons, Vina has not won much with a record of 45-200. Their 18.0% winning percentage ranks 59th in Class 1A and 386th in the AHSAA. The Red Devils have struggled on the football field with only one winning season during this time. Their last winning season was 2004. Season Outlook: The Vina Red Devils will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Red Devils remain in 1A but move from region eight over to region seven. The Red Devils have gone 34 consecutive seasons without finishing a single year winning more games than they lost. Vina has only won six games in the past seven seasons so it is highly likely that streak will continue in 2024. The Red Devils will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. After just a single win last year, Vina will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season. Vina simply does not have the numbers to be competitive on the football field at this time. With just 62 students, the Red Devils are one of the smallest schools playing the game and have little chance of being successful. Season Opener: The Red Devils open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Brindlee Mountain on Friday, August 30 at Franklin-Hester Stadium. Last year the Brindlee Mountain Lions finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in seventh place in Class 3A region seven. The Lions closed out the regular season with a loss to Gaston by a score of 61-42. This will be the second meeting between Vina and Brindlee Mountain on the football field. The Red Devils have a 1-0-0 record against the Lions. They last met in with | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
