2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wilson finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Wilson finished eighth in Class 4A region seven with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The defense allowed a team record 434 points last season. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Wilson averaged scoring just 13.6 points a game. The Warriors also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 43.4 points a game. The Warriors would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, Wilson has gone a combined 56-87. Their 39.2% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Wilson has managed to compile a record of 95-159. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 4A and 292nd in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Warriors are led by head coach Trey Lane who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Wilson. The Warriors have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Lane. Season Outlook: The Wilson Warriors will play in Class 4A region seven during the 2024 season. The Warriors enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 8 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. The Warriors of Wilson have struggled on the football field in recent years. Over the past six seasons they have won exactly nine football games and finished the past four seasons 1-9. There is no place to go but up for second year head coach Trey Lane in 2024. This season, the Warriors will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region seven. Season Opener: The Warriors open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Rogers on Friday, August 23 at Ralph Thompson Stadium. Last year the Rogers Pirates finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 4A region seven. The Pirates ended last season on a positive note with a win over Lexington by a score of 29-26 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Wilson and Rogers have met a total of 49 times on the football field. The Warriors have a 22-27-0 record against the Pirates. They last met in 2023 with Rogers winning by a score of 45-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
