Hartselle completed the 2016 season with a 9-3 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 6A region eight, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Hartselle reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Minor by a score of 48-17. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Hartselle has gone a combined 66-21. Their 76.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 6A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hartselle has managed to compile a record of 203-103. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 6A and 46th in the AHSAA. The Tigers have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 2007. The Tigers are led by head coach Robert Godsey who is entering his fifteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 124-46 over the past fourteen seasons at Hartselle. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of thirteen times. They have won four region crowns with Coach Godsey. Coach Godsey led Hartselle to a state championship in 2011. Coach Godsey's overall record as a head football coach in nineteen season stands at 166-61 (73.1%). His 166 wins rank 3rd among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Godsey's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of sixteen times and won five region championships. The Hartselle Tigers will play in Class 6A region eight during the 2017 season. The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2005 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2017. The Tigers open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Cullman on Friday, August 25 at Woodard Stadium. Last year the Cullman Bearcats finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 6A region seven. The Bearcats lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Decatur by a score of 35-10. Hartselle and Cullman have met a total of 102 times on the football field.
