Decatur completed the 2016 season with a 10-2 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 6A region eight, the Red Raiders earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Decatur reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Ramsay by a score of 34-6. The Red Raiders won as many games as in any season since 2007. The Red Raiders hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Adcock saw improvement as they won ten games following a 4-6 record in 2015. Since 2010, Decatur has gone a combined 49-30. The Red Raiders open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent James Clemens on Thursday, August 24 at Shorty Ogle Stadium. Last year the James Clemens Jets finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in second place in Class 7A region four. The Jets lost in the second round of the Class 7A playoffs to Hoover by a score of 14-7. Decatur and James Clemens have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Red Raiders have a 2-0-0 record against the Jets. They last met in 2013 with Decatur winning by a score of 35-14. Decatur returns 6A All-State Senior linebacker Josh Marsh.
