2017 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Choctaw County finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 0-9 record. Last year Choctaw County finished seventh in Class 2A region one with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2003 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 1999 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Choctaw County averaged scoring just 8.2 points a game. The Tigers also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 38.3 points a game. The Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-15 record. Since 2010, the Choctaw County football program has struggled with a record of 15-54. Over the past 25 seasons, Choctaw County has managed to compile a record of 93-171. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 45th in Class 2A and 320th in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2001. The Tigers are led by head coach Charles Chaney who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 4-25 over the past three seasons at Choctaw County. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Chaney. Coach Chaney's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 6-33 (15.4%). The Choctaw County Tigers will play in Class 2A region one during the 2017 season. The Tigers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 55-45 last season. That ranks 6th in Class 2A and 80th in the AHSAA. The Tigers enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 12 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Tigers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Choctaw County will be to simply win some games. The Tigers open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Marengo on Friday, September 1 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Marengo Panthers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 1A region one. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Brantley by a score of 55-38. Choctaw County and Marengo have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 2-5-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2016 with Marengo winning by a score of 38-0. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
