 2024 Preview 


       Alabama Christian completed the 2023 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region three, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Alabama Christian's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Houston Academy by a score of 49-18.

       Since 2010, Alabama Christian has gone a combined 72-82. Their 46.8% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Alabama Christian has managed to compile a record of 124-146. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 3A and 228th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Eagles are led by head coach Michael Summers who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 21-13 over the past three seasons at Alabama Christian. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Summers.

Season Outlook:

       The Alabama Christian Eagles will play in Class 3A region two during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Eagles remain in 3A but move from region three over to region two.

      

       The Eagles have qualified for the playoffs in each of the past eight seasons and have hopes of extending that streak in 2024. Region 2 is a little crowded with potential playoff teams and two teams that moved down from 4A with realignment.

       Alabama Christian has reached the playoffs in each of the past eight football seasons and will be working hard this fall to add another season to that streak.

       The Eagles return eight players who were starters last year on the offensive side of the ball and four to the defense.

       Coach Summers had this to say about his team in 2024. ''Young on defense, experienced on offense. Tough region.''

    The Eagles should be in contention for a playoff spot in region two this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2015 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2024.

Season Opener:
       The Eagles open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Escambia County on Friday, August 23 at Eagles Stadium. Last year the Escambia County Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 6-4 and in fifth place in Class 4A region one.

       Alabama Christian and Escambia County have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 1-2-0 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 2007 with Escambia County winning by a score of 12-8.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The first night game played between high school teams in the state occurred on September 23, 1927 when Pike Road and Cloverdale met in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
