 2024 Preview 


       Bullock County completed the 2023 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Bullock County finished seventh in Class 4A region two with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Hornets have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2024.

       Bullock County was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Hornets want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.6 points a game.

       Since 2010, the Bullock County football program has struggled with a record of 32-107.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Bullock County has not won much with a record of 46-200. Their 19.0% winning percentage ranks 65th in Class 4A and 385th in the AHSAA. The Hornets have struggled on the football field with only two winning seasons during this time.

Head Coach:
       The Hornets are led by head coach Jeremy Vines who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-6 record in his first season at Bullock County. The Hornets saw improvement from a 3-7 record the season before coach Vines arrived. The Hornets have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Vines.

Season Outlook:

       The Bullock County Hornets will play in Class 4A region three during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Hornets remain in 4A but move from region two over to region three.

      

       The Hornets have not reached the playoffs since the 2019 football season. Could this be the year they break that streak and make the post Season? Coach Vines would like nothing better for his team this year.

       With nine starters back they will open the season with some experienced players scattered all over the field. Hopefully it will parlay into a couple more victories and a playoff sport for the Hornets come November. Region 3 will be a little tougher this year as Bullock County is joined by St. James (3A) and Tallassee (5A) but they will not have to face Andalusia or Catholic in 2024.

    The Hornets could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Bullock County has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2019 but hope to return to the post season this year.

Season Opener:
       The Hornets open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Lanett on Friday, August 23 at Morgan-Washburn Stadium. Last year the Lanett Panthers finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 2A region three.

       Bullock County and Lanett have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Hornets have a 0-3-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 1995 with Lanett winning by a score of 31-6.
