 2024 Preview 


       Carbon Hill finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Carbon Hill finished sixth in Class 3A region five with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Bulldogs lost as many games as in any season since 2013. The Bulldogs last playoff victory came during the 1999 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Carbon Hill averaged scoring just 7.6 points a game. The Bulldogs also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 51.7 points a game.

       The Bulldogs would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Carbon Hill football program has struggled with a record of 29-112.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Carbon Hill has not won much with a record of 67-187. Their 26.0% winning percentage ranks 57th in Class 3A and 358th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Bulldogs are led by head coach D.J. Emerson who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 0-10 record in his first season at Carbon Hill. The Bulldogs have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Emerson.

Season Outlook:

       The Carbon Hill Bulldogs will play in Class 3A region five during the 2024 season.

      

       The Bulldogs enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 11 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       The Bulldogs are coming off an 0-10 season and have not won more games than they lost since 2002. They have reached the playoffs once since the 1999 football season so they have no way to go except up this season.

       Coach Emerson said at media days that ''We have about 70 players out this summer for workouts which is encouraging.'' He believes his team is in a much better place than they were one year ago. He wants the team to keep moving forward and working hard.

    This season, the Bulldogs will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Carbon Hill will be to simply win some games.

Season Opener:
       The Bulldogs open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Curry on Thursday, August 22 at G.W. Keith Stadium. Last year the Curry Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 4A region five.

       Carbon Hill and Curry have met a total of 75 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 44-31-0 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2021 with Carbon Hill winning by a score of 66-8.
