2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Arab finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Arab finished sixth in Class 5A region seven with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Arab was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Arabian Knights want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.4 points a game. Arab struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 35.4 points a game. Since 2010, Arab has gone a combined 45-60. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 5A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 29 seasons, Arab has managed to compile a record of 93-165. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 54th in Class 5A and 320th in the AHSAA. The Arabian Knights will be under the direction of new head football coach Oscar Glasscock as they enter the 2018 season. The Arab Arabian Knights will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Arabian Knights remain in 5A but move from region seven over to region eight. It will be an uphill battle for the Arabian Knights if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region eight this season. After just 2 wins last year, Arab will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Arabian Knights open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Boaz on Friday, August 24 at Arab City Schools Sports Complex. Last year the Boaz Pirates finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in seventh place in Class 5A region seven. The Pirates closed out the regular season with a loss to Sardis by a score of 35-7. Arab and Boaz have met a total of 63 times on the football field. The Arabian Knights have a 44-18-1 record against the Pirates. They last met in 2017 with Arab winning by a score of 46-24. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
