2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Scottsboro completed the 2017 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Scottsboro just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 5A region seven with a 3-4 region record. The Wildcats hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just five games which followed a 12-1 record in 2016. Since 2010, Scottsboro has gone a combined 38-48. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 5A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Scottsboro has managed to compile a record of 134-130. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 5A and 173rd in the AHSAA. The Wildcats are led by head coach Don Jacobs who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 5-5 record in his first season at Scottsboro. The Wildcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Jacobs. Coach Jacobs' overall record as a head football coach in eleven season stands at 92-43 (68.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Jacobs' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won four region championships. Coach Jacobs won a state championship at in 2013. If Scottsboro can win eight games this season, Coach Jacobs will reach the 100 win milestone. The Scottsboro Wildcats will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 5A but move from region seven over to region eight. With a little luck and some improvement, the Wildcats could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region eight this season. Scottsboro came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Wildcats open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Fort Payne on Friday, August 31 at Pat Trammell Stadium. Last year the Fort Payne Wildcats finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 6A region seven. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Homewood by a score of 28-21. Scottsboro and Fort Payne have met a total of 89 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 33-53-3 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2017 with Fort Payne winning by a score of 34-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
