2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Central finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Central finished seventh in Class 3A region three with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Cougars lost as many games as in any season since 2009. The Cougars last playoff victory came during the 2000 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The Cougars hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they did not win a game which followed a 5-5 record in 2016. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Central Coosa averaged scoring just 4.6 points a game. The Cougars also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 47.3 points a game. Since 2010, the Central football program has struggled with a record of 19-62. Over the past 25 seasons, Central has not won much with a record of 72-172. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 50th in Class 2A and 336th in the AHSAA. The Cougars will be under the direction of new head football coach Brett Thomas as they enter the 2018 season. The Central Cougars will play in Class 2A region four during the 2018 season. The Cougars may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 3A to 2A. They will compete in region four this year. The Cougars enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 11 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Cougars will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Central will be to simply win some games. The Cougars open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Winterboro on Friday, August 24 at Bulldog Stadium. Last year the Winterboro Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 1A region four. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Georgiana by a score of 64-0. Central and Winterboro have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Cougars have a 0-3-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
