Muscle Shoals completed the 2017 season with a 9-3 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 6A region eight, the Trojans earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Muscle Shoals reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Oxford by a score of 34-7. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Muscle Shoals has gone a combined 80-21. Their 79.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 6A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Muscle Shoals has managed to compile a record of 149-117. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 6A and 129th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2008. The Trojans are led by head coach Scott Basden who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 91-32 over the past ten seasons at Muscle Shoals. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times. They have won four region crowns with Coach Basden. Coach Basden's overall record as a head football coach in eighteen season stands at 160-61 (72.4%). His 160 wins rank 25th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Basden's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of sixteen times and won seven region championships. Coach Basden won a state championship at in 2007. The Muscle Shoals Trojans will play in Class 6A region seven during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Trojans remain in 6A but move from region eight over to region seven. The Trojans should be considered one of the favorites for the region seven championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Trojans have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2008 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. The Trojans open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Deshler on Thursday, August 23 at Howard Chappell Stadium. Last year the Deshler Tigers finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in third place in Class 4A region eight. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Dora by a score of 29-20. Muscle Shoals and Deshler have met a total of 42 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 19-22-1 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2017 with Muscle Shoals winning by a score of 27-14. Muscle Shoals returns 6A All-State linebacker Jackson Bratton.
