Phillips completed the 2017 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region eight, the Bears earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Phillips's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Spring Garden by a score of 40-14. Since 2010, Phillips has gone a combined 42-45. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 1A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Phillips has managed to compile a record of 94-156. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 1A and 297th in the AHSAA. The Bears are led by head coach Alex Lindley who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 9-13 over the past two seasons at Phillips. Under his direction the Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. Last year the Decatur Heritage Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in third place in Class 1A region seven. The Eagles lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to South Lamar by a score of 40-39. Phillips and Decatur Heritage Christian have met a total of 9 times on the football field. The Bears have a 3-6-0 record against the Eagles.
