2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Woodland finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Woodland finished sixth in Class 2A region five with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Woodland was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bobcats want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.2 points a game. The Bobcats would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Woodland has gone a combined 48-44. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 2A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Woodland has managed to compile a record of 144-130. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 2A and 158th in the AHSAA. The Bobcats are led by head coach Jeremy Stanford who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at Woodland. The Bobcats saw improvement from a 1-9 record the season before coach Stanford arrived. The Bobcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Stanford. Coach Stanford's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 3-7 (30.0%). The Woodland Bobcats will play in Class 2A region six during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Bobcats remain in 2A but move from region five over to region six. It will be an uphill battle for the Bobcats if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region six this season. The Bobcats open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Fayetteville on Friday, August 24 at Sewell Field. Last year the Fayetteville Wolves finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 2A region five. The Wolves closed out the regular season with a loss to B.B. Comer by a score of 42-34. Woodland and Fayetteville have met a total of 9 times on the football field. The Bobcats have a 5-4-0 record against the Wolves. They last met in 2017 with Woodland winning by a score of 41-6. Woodland returns 2A All-State defensive back Trey McFarland. He was named to the second team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
