2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fayette County completed the 2017 season with a 12-3 record. Last year Fayette County captured the region six title and a number one seed in the Class 4A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. The Tigers won four consecutive playoff games to reach the Class 4A State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by UMS-Wright at the Alabama Super Seven 21-7 in Auburn. The Tigers hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Tucker saw improvement as they won twelve games following a 5-7 record in 2016. Since 2010, Fayette County has gone a combined 77-31. Their 71.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 4A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Fayette County has gone a combined 209-85. Their 71.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 4A and 28th in the AHSAA. The Tigers have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. The Tigers are led by head coach Lance Tucker who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 67-28 over the past seven seasons at Fayette County. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have won four region crowns with Coach Tucker. Coach Tucker's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 67-38 (63.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Tucker's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times and won four region championships. The Fayette County Tigers will play in Class 4A region five during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 4A but move from region six over to region five. Fayette County enters the 2018 season with a string of 9 consecutive wins on their home field at John Morgan Brown Stadium. The Tigers should be considered one of the favorites for the region five championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Tigers are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Tigers have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2004 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. The Tigers open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Gordo on Thursday, August 23 at Green Wave Stadium. Last year the Gordo Green Wave finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class 3A region four. The Green Wave lost in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to Mobile Christian by a score of 24-0. Fayette County and Gordo have met a total of 78 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 42-34-2 record against the Green Wave. They last met in 2017 with Fayette County winning by a score of 18-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
