2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Jasper finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Jasper finished sixth in Class 6A region six with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Vikings lost as many games as in any season since 1994. The defense allowed a team record 311 points last season. Jasper was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Vikings want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.7 points a game. Since 2010, Jasper has gone a combined 54-34. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 5A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Jasper has managed to compile a record of 179-91. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 5A and 58th in the AHSAA. The Vikings will be under the direction of new head football coach Bryan Moore as they enter the 2018 season. Coach Moore's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 26-9 (74.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Moore's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times . The Jasper Vikings will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2018 season. The Vikings may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 6A to 5A. They will compete in region seven this year. It will be an uphill battle for the Vikings if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. The Vikings open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Cullman on Thursday, August 23 at Woodard Stadium. Last year the Cullman Bearcats finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in third place in Class 6A region seven. The Bearcats lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Ramsay by a score of 14-0. Jasper and Cullman have met a total of 76 times on the football field. The Vikings have a 36-38-2 record against the Bearcats. They last met in 2013 with Cullman winning by a score of 13-10. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
