Oak Mountain completed the 2017 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Oak Mountain finished sixth in Class 7A region three with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Eagles had some tough luck last season as three of their five losses were by less than eight points. Since 2010, Oak Mountain has gone a combined 38-46. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 7A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 19 seasons, Oak Mountain has managed to compile a record of 90-108. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 7A and 236th in the AHSAA. The Eagles are led by head coach Cris Bell who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 34-30 over the past six seasons at Oak Mountain. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bell. Coach Bell's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 34-30 (53.1%). The Oak Mountain Eagles will play in Class 7A region three during the 2018 season. Region three will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. It will be an uphill battle for the Eagles if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. The Eagles open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Chelsea on Friday, August 24 at Heardmont Park Sportsplex/Eagle Stadium. Last year the Chelsea Hornets finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in fifth place in Class 6A region three. The Hornets closed out the regular season with a loss to Cullman by a score of 37-29. Oak Mountain and Chelsea have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 10-3-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in 2017 with Oak Mountain winning by a score of 21-10. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
