2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
St. John Paul II finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year St. John Paul II finished eighth in Class 5A region eight with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Falcons have never qualified for a playoff spot and would love to break that streak this season. The Falcons have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2018. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as St. John Paul II averaged scoring just 9.3 points a game. The Falcons also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 43.6 points a game. The Falcons would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. St. John Paul II is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only six seasons. They have managed a record of 6-52 over the past six years. The Falcons are led by head coach David Lloyd who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at St. John Paul II. The Falcons saw improvement from a 0-10 record the season before coach Lloyd arrived. The Falcons have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Lloyd. Coach Lloyd's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 1-9 (10.0%). The St. John Paul II Falcons will play in Class 4A region seven during the 2018 season. The Falcons may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 5A to 4A. They will compete in region seven this year. This season, the Falcons will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region seven. The Falcons open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Locust Fork on Friday, August 24 at Discovery Middle School. Last year the Locust Fork Hornets finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in third place in Class 3A region six. The Hornets lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Colbert Heights by a score of 28-0. St. John Paul II and Locust Fork have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Falcons have a 2-0-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
