2018 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
St. Luke's completed the 2017 season with a 10-2 record. Last year St. Luke's captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Wildcats. St. Luke's lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Goshen team by a score of 56-52. No team at St. Luke's ever won more games in a season than the ten victories last year. The 570 points scored by the Wildcats last year were a team record in a single season. It marked the first time since the 2013 season that the Wildcats qualified for the playoffs. The Wildcats hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Lee saw improvement as they won ten games following a 2-8 record in 2016. The high-scoring St. Lukes offense ranked 4th in the AHSAA. They averaged 47.5 points a game. Since 2010, St. Luke's has gone a combined 40-42. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 1A over the past eight seasons. The Wildcats are led by head coach Ronn Lee who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 14-17 over the past three seasons at St. Luke's. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Lee. Coach Lee's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-three season stands at 110-136 (44.7%). His 110 wins rank 50th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Lee's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times and won two region championships. The St. Luke's Wildcats will play in Class 1A region one during the 2018 season. The Wildcats may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 2A to 1A. They will compete in region one this year. The Wildcats enter the 2018 season riding a 5 game regular season winning streak. The Wildcats should be in contention for a playoff spot in region one this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The Wildcats open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Georgiana on Friday, August 24 at Harmond Field. Last year the Georgiana Panthers finished with an overall record of 11-1 and in first place in Class 1A region two. The Panthers lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Marengo by a score of 18-0. St. Luke's and Georgiana have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 0-4-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2017 with Georgiana winning by a score of 38-30. St. Luke's returns 2A All-State athlete Jermaine Brown. He was named to the first team last season. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
