2018 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Westminster Christian completed the 2017 season with a 6-5 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region seven, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Westminster Christian's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Saks by a score of 42-21. It marked the first time since the 2014 season that the Wildcats qualified for the playoffs. Since 2010, Westminster Christian has gone a combined 47-37. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 3A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 13 seasons, Westminster Christian has managed to compile a record of 64-69. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 3A and 204th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats are led by head coach Louis LeBlanc who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 8-13 over the past two seasons at Westminster Christian. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach LeBlanc. Coach LeBlanc's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 8-13 (38.1%). The Westminster Christian Wildcats will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2018 season. The Wildcats may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 4A to 3A. They will compete in region eight this year. With a little luck and some improvement, the Wildcats could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region eight this season. Unfortunately, Westminster Christian finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason. The Wildcats open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent D.A.R. on Friday, August 24 at Louisa St Clair Athletic Field. Last year the D.A.R. Patriots finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in seventh place in Class 4A region seven. The Patriots ended last season on a positive note with a win over Brindlee Mountain by a score of 50-6 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Westminster Christian and D.A.R. have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 11-2-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2017 with Westminster Christian winning by a score of 40-23. Westminster Christian returns 4A All-State linebacker Caden Best. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
