2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Baldwin County completed the 2021 season with a 8-4 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 6A region one, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Baldwin County reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Hillcrest Tuscaloosa by a score of 28-22. The Tigers won as many games as in any season since 2003. The 384 points scored by the Tigers last year were a team record in a single season. It marked the first time since the 2007 season that the Tigers qualified for the playoffs. The Tigers hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Rials saw improvement as they won eight games following a 3-6 record in 2020. Since 2010, Baldwin County has gone a combined 44-77. Their 36.4% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 6A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Baldwin County has managed to compile a record of 114-147. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 6A and 243rd in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Scott Rials who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 11-10 over the past two seasons at Baldwin County. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Rials. Coach Rials' overall record as a head football coach in twenty-four season stands at 182-94 (65.9%). His 182 wins rank 17th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Rials' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eighteen times and won five region championships. Coach Rials won a state championship at Elba in 2011. The Tigers won their first playoff game since 2003 last year and Coach Rials will be looking to continue to build on that success this year. The Baldwin County Tigers will play in Class 6A region one during the 2022 season. Baldwin County will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Tigers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season. Unfortunately, Baldwin County finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason. The Tigers open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Foley on Friday, August 26 at Simmons Field. Last year the Foley Lions finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 7A region one. The Lions ended last season on a positive note with a win over Alma Bryant by a score of 37-0 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Baldwin County and Foley have met a total of 95 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 39-53-3 record against the Lions. They last met in 2021 with Baldwin County winning by a score of 49-28. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
